Page 53, Exercise 2.5

Draw an ER diagram for the specified database. You must use Microsoft Visio to produce the diagram.

Note: All the songs produced by Notown Records are instrumentals.
Add to the model the fact that each musician gets paid

• a base salary
  
• an author fee for writing a song that appears on an album
  
• a performance fee for performing on a song on an album
  
• a producer fee for producing an album

You need to supply 10 reasonable queries that users of the database can answer using your model.

• At least 8 queries must work on two (or more) entities or relationships
  • Example of a two entity/relationship query:
    • How many albums has each mucisian produced?
• At least 3 queries must work on three (or more) entities or relationships
  
  

You need to supply 5 reasonable queries that users of the database can NOT answer using your model. For each of these queries, detail what data would need to be added to the model and where/how.

• Example of a reasonable query we cannot answer:
  • How long, on average, does it take for a song to be released on an album once it is written?
• Example of an unreasonble query we cannot answer (for which you will receive no credit):
  • What was the GPA in elementry school for all musicians who produced more than one album?

Submission:

Turn in a hard copy of your diagram and questions (typed neatly, spell checked). Also, you must submit two electronic copies (PDF and Visio Drawing) of your diagram by dropping a copy of your Visio document in CS445Drop on Turing\Students.  Name  your files CS445_Hmwk3_PUNetID.{pdf,vsd}
