This special topics course is an introduction to computer networking, introducing fundamental concepts and exploring concrete examples. The class will be guided by a top down study of the OSI and TCP/IP models of networking, from the application layer down to the physical layer. Students will be required to produce a number of networking applications including client/server applications and an implementation of a reliable transport protocol (TCP), as well as to work with CISCO routers.
