The purpose of this worksheet is to review what we've done up to this point with SPSS.
Problem: Recently a study was done to compare the metabolic rates of men and women. The units of metabolic rate are calories burned per 24-hour period. This data can be found in the file Metab.csv in CS130 Public.
1) Create an SPSS dataset called metabolic_PUNetID.sav from this file. I do not want you to type the data into SPSS. That is, you are to find a way to import the data into SPSS. You might have to do this on the final with a file that is say 1000 lines, so figure out a way to import the data. In a Word document (named metabolic_PUNetID.doc) using 12-pt Times New Roman font, report on the following:
a) What is the type and measure of each variable?
b) Report on the median, mean, and standard deviation of the rate for (1) women and (2) men.
c) Create a graph that shows the difference between the means of the Rate between women and men. Paste this graph into the Word document and make the graph a reasonable size without any distortion.
d) Create a scatter plot of the Rate value for (1) women and (2) for men (create two charts, one for men and one for women). Paste both charts, properly labeled, into Word.
e) Does it make sense to do some kind of regression analysis on these two charts? If so, do it. If not, explain why it doesn't make sense.Skip the following for now:
f) Does the metabolic rate of men and women differ in a statistically significant way? What statistical test would you use to determine this? What is your null hypothesis? Perform the analysis and state your conclusion.
You do not need to submit this work.
