The PURE laboratory consists of a collection of network hardware donated to Pacific University. The Lab will be used for classroom exercises as well as student research projects. The hardware currently available in the lab is:

• one CISCO Catalyst 2960 Switch
• one CISCO 2610XM Termserver
• five CISCO 2801 Integrated Services Routers

This hardware allows the lab to simulate the routing needs of a large company's computer network. The PURE Lab allows students to gain experience using real world hardware while testing the use of different routing protocols and algorithms.

The CS 360 Special Topics: Computer Networking course will make use of this Lab for a programming assignment exploring how traffic is routed on a commercial network. Students will be required to use the five routers to simulate a business's network infrastructure. Programming assignments from earlier in the semester will be used to test their network configuration.
